چکیده

Abstract The white-clawed crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes is endangered throughout its entire biogeographic range in Europe due to infection with Aphanomyces astaci (crayfish plague) and habitat deterioration. Ex situ propagation of increasing importance safeguard genetic resources enable restocking measures after the pathogen’s disappearance. This study aimed quantify impact crude protein content on growth response survival crayfish as optimal efficiency captive rearing has remained largely unexplored. Three separate 80 day feeding trials were conducted: juvenile monosex mixed sex fed medium high diets, adult low diets. Survival, weight gain carapace length measured bi-weekly during trials. Growth relative cephalothorax assemblages was significantly higher for diet (Mdn = 19.4) than 15.2, , ) an average increase 18.3% compared 16.1% diet, respectively. However, there no significant difference assemblages. All data not Thus, obvious advantage a A. case assemblage can reduce terms size.

The electrical potential difference across the epithelium of isolated gills of the crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet).

There has been a considerable amount of work on the electrical potential differences and active transport processes of ions across various vertebrate epithelia (Ussing, i960). Little work of this type has been attempted on invertebrate material. As the crustacean gill epithelium has only a single layer of cells separating the body fluid and the external medium, it should be particularly suitabl...

A bomb set to drop: parthenogenetic Marmorkrebs for sale in Ireland, a European location without non-indigenous crayfish

Ireland is one of the few locations in Europe where non-indigenous North American crayfish species have not been introduced, and is a refuge for endangered white-clawed crayfish, Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet, 1858). The parthenogenetic crayfish species Marmorkrebs, Procambarus fallax f. virginalis (Hagen, 1870), is sold in the pet trade in Ireland within the recorded range of A. palli...

Calcium balance at the postmoult stage of the freshwater crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet).

Net uptake of calcium by Austropotamobius begins 15-30 min after the moult and rapidly reaches a maximum level (2 /imoles/g/h at io°C) which is maintained throughout stages A and B. At stage Cx the rate of net uptake falls sharply to a lower level which is gradually reduced until equilibrium is reached at C4. The uptake mechanism is near-saturated at 0-4 mM-Ca/1 and half-saturated at 0-13 mM-Ca...

Respiration in relation to ion uptake in the crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet).

1. O2 uptake was determined for periods of 23-46 h in salt-depleted crayfish held in deionized water (DW) or Na-free media at 10 degrees C. These media were replaced by artificial lakewater media (ALW) containing 0-2-0-6 mM Na and O2 uptake was again determined for periods of 24-66 h. 2. During net ion uptake in ALW the metabolic rate was either elevated or depressed. Standard metabolism in ALW...

Total body calcium and haemolymph calcium concentrations in the crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes (Lereboullet).

Variations in the concentration of calcium in the haemolymph and of total body calcium in Austropotamobius pallipes have been investigated. Haemolymph calcium concentration was independent of both body size and sex. During premoult the calcium concentration of the haemolymph rose from 11-8 ITIM/1 to 15-0 HIM/I. After the moult the calcium concentration remained high during stages A and B but de...
